santa baby.

I truely love Christmas, not because my family gets into a drunk mess and we have abismol attempts at sharades i just love the feeling of it all! It helps i've been bffz with my cousin since baby time, we were at the same school, same friends, saw each other at least 6 days out of 7, and now Christmas means we're reunited for a month to watch elf and drink gallons of diet coke and tesco's onion rings.

Santa was truely amazing this year, I didn't expect anything really, but i got a baby Canon camera, i love it to bits although i'm terrified to take  it outside ha, it did make its first venture out last night however! Chris and I went a bit wild with it.

Here he is!
Can't wait to start using it properly in Fashion Communications next semester.

I also had the dilemma of the Boyfriend Present. Chris and I are more of a 'off you go and surprise me' couple. For my birthday he got me a vintage pocket watch from the 1930's which came from America, it's now on a chain and is my blingbling. So i had high hopes for the lad and he did well! We set a price limit cause we're both super broke all the time, and we do personal gifts rather than spending a fortune.
He had made a necklace with a working thermometer on it, it;s the cutest thing i've ever seen, and since the woman he had made it (also from America) only worked in silver, he asked for it to be plated gold because i hate silver.

Good Boy.

I also got money, so hello sales! Got these darlings from Urban Outfitters. I originally wanted the yellow court platforms but these loves stole my heart, and they're a size 7 oopsys when i'm a 5 but i love them and i will stuff them in order to wear amazing shoes. They are now my tranny boots.

In addition, because i was super spoilt this year, think my parents are missing me, or they felt guilty since they practically kitted out every room in my sister's house and added generously to be brother's already huge film collection. But i also got a small library worth of fashion books, YAY, i just love the pictures. Especially the Nick Knight, love this work soso much
and now i have the book.

But happy Christmas one and all, hope Santa babe was as good to you as he was to me.

day break.

Corinne Day (1965-2010) was one of the most ground breaking photographers i've ever seen. She was often commisioned for Vogue so you will have seen tons of her work. her photographs captured more than just the model and the garments, they were more like portraits, capturing the model's personality and essence. She was famed for her portraits of Kate Moss for FACE magazine, pretty much creating 'Herion Chic'.
Always known for being difficult to work with, Day would move models by millimetres to create the perfect shot. Her photoshoot 'Golden Years' which appeared in Vogue in 2007 inspired me to want to work in fashion. She created amazing shots with the most elaborate backgrounds which completely complemented the Haute Couture garments she was photographing.
Her work is incredible and i encourage everyone to look her up, she wasn't just a 'fashion photographer' her work is inspired and are all works of art.
Her are some of my favourites to give you a taster.

this is the shot which convinced me i had to work in fashion.
'Golden Years' Vogue 2007

I love the dress in contrast with the set, the photograph tells so much more than just capturing the beauty of the garment.

one of the 'Faces'. So beautiful, think she'd swap faces with me?

There's so much i love about this, it's such an action shot, makes me want to be back at the festivals.

One of her earlier works, i think it was these shots she was heavily criticised about, how young models were being made to parade about in saucy undies, but they're beautiful, some people have no concept of fashion honestly.

This is one of my favourites, it's captured the woman looking so vunerable but so brave by bearing all during her pregnancy.

This looks so iconic, how you want all your summers to be really. If only.

The movement in this is incredible, the contrast of the model's simplicity with the drama of the dancers is gorgeous.

mario.

Mario Testino is one of Vogue's main photographers, i love his work, he's done a gorgeous shoot of Keira Knightley in the Jan 11 Vogue issue, it's all light/dark and contrasting, looks really fierce.

SHOWstudio.

This is amazing, click on the different body parts and watch. Be prepared if you pick the chest.

Show Studio has some inspiring stuff on it,  it's ran by Nick Knight and you can see the 200 portraits he did for the Pre Fall edition of i-D, but in video format.

Nick Knight's project titled 'Clown'.

Ginger Jesus

This is my Muiry.
He is the original Ginger Jesus, as he has proved.

He's very lovely.
He goes to Glasgow School of Art, studying Architecture.

He's good at the old photo taking.
He's going to teach me lots.

Lovely Boy.

He'll do.

"Experience it. Enjoy it. Just don't fall for it."

This is my all time favourite film, directed by Cameron Crowe it's just amazing. It's about a 15 year old kid who goes on tour with the band Stillwater, to write an article for Rolling Stone magazine. Everything's so rock and roll, this is how music should be, and you will want to be Penny Lane.

do it like a brothah

proper love her, she's terrifying, so white she's black.

Hullo.

I've realised i've not introduced myself properly. My full name's Rebecca Foran, i'm from Ayr in Scotland and i'm at Heriot Watt Scottish Borders campus, which is in Galashiels, studying Fashion. I love fashion, pretty much every aspect of it. My favourite films are True Romance and Almost Famous. I'm a vintage hoarder. I crack my ankles constantly and can shake my eyes. I want to travel to Mexico and St. Petersburg. I want to go back to Barcelona this summer and just walk about for hours. I love festivals, i want to go to Beniccasium this year. I want to live in Paris. I want my French to sound less Scottish. My favourite dress only cost me £5. I lived in Edinburgh for a year and met some of the most amazing people i will ever meet. I want to be better at photography. I want to end up in Glasgow's west end. I love music, i love music more when they're unsigned and more talented than any x factor reject. My first child is getting called Delilah- i don't care if it's a boy.

This is my face.

covered by a lense because you'll be very lucky if you ever seen a photograph of me when i'm not taking the piss/covering my face.

love and shizz.xo

Off We Go!

This is me now blogging from Galashiels, however only when the internet connects every thirty minutes or so, and despite it being in the middle of no where, three hours from home I do really like it.
So before we all set off to Gala, we were set a summer project by our tutors which involved creating an A3 magazine spread based on magazines such as i-D or Dazed And Confused. I picked i-D, i really loved the simplistic contemporary feel and decided it reflected me the most as i don't dress in crazy colours of wear a jewellers worth of adornments, I live in my vintage Levi shorts, simple vests and most likely a ripped pair of tights (not by choice, i just need to look at tights and they rip).
For the project i nominated my boyfriend Chris to take the photos, mainly because
a) he's good
b) will teach me photoshop and
c) i don't own a camera that's not film.
So after a daty's worth of me telling him what i want, him teaching me how to do it and then me standing awkwardly infont of the camera i'd had enough. I hate photos! So much, my face seems to seize up into an awkward grimace. So by the end of the day I just started being the idiot i am, and it worked out not bad! This one is my favourite:

But i actually really enjoyed the project, even though most would hate holiday homework I was glad to be brought up my repetitive loop summer seem to enforce on people and actually look forward to studying fashion! And the project has made me further considered working for a magazine, doing layouts, photos or styling.
Talking to the people hereand finding out so many of them have travelled has really given me itchy feet. I'm really wanting to look into an internship for this summer, but we'll just have to see! Right now i'll be kept occupied with Gala and hopefully get another 20 internet connection like this one so i can post some more!
And incase anyone wondered, here is my page layout, based on i-D's Pre Fall 2010 issue:
